Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team know they will be playing in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament after picking up a 3-0 win over conference opponent Chestnut Hill Tuesday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.

Philadelphia improves to 9-4-0 overall and 9-1-0 in the CACC. The Lady Rams will be in the tournament for the seventh time since joining the conference in 2005.

Forward Nicole Van Bourgondien broke the scoreless deadlock after fighting her way through the Chestnut Hill (5-8-0, 5-3-0 CACC) defense and finding the net with a sharp-angle shot from the left side in the 19th minute. The goal is Van Bougondien's first of 2012.

Forward Patrice Maro added an insurance goal, her second this season, in the 45th minute on a breakaway. Forward Janine Cascio sprung Maro free with a through-ball up the middle that split the Griffin backline.

The match remained 2-0 until the 88th minute when forward Sarah VanBuskirk netted her first collegiate goal. She volleyed in a centering pass from midfielder Melissa Copeland, who played the aerial pass into the box from the left sideline.

Philadelphia's Kelli Kowalewski wasn't forced to make a save in the victory, while Chestnut Hill's Jessica Veazey stopped five shots. The Lady Rams outshot the Griffins, 22-6, 13-1 in the first half.

The Lady Rams close out their three-match home-stand with a CACC match against Dominican (N.Y.) on Saturday, Oct. 13 at noon.
