Plymouth Meeting, PA- Playing for a
third-consecutive trip to the Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference (CACC) championship match, senior Kristin
Franks (Hamilton, NJ/ Hamilton West) scored the
game-winning goal in the second sudden-death overtime period with
26 seconds remaining to get the game-winner for the #1 Philadelphia
University women's soccer team (11-6-4, 8-0-3 CACC) in a 2-1 CACC
semifinal victory over the #4 Caldwell College Cougars (8-11-1,
7-3-1 CACC) on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lady Rams will #2 Georgian Court University on Saturday,
November 8th at 5:30 p.m. in the CACC championship
match. GCU advanced with a 1-0 win over #3 Holy Family
in the other semifinal match.
Franks' winning goal was her first score of the season.
The Lady Rams started the match with a 15-0 shot advantage in
the first half- but could not find the back of the net as they
headed into the break tied 0-0.
PhilaU senior Brianna Reinford (Gilbertsville,
PA/ Pottsgrove) headed in the first goal of the match at 70:16, off
a corner kick from sophomore Sara Redka
(Williamsport, PA/ Williamsport) to take a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Rams held the Cougars shot-less for nearly 80 minutes,
but the Cougars clawed back with a header from Samantha Rinks off a
corner kick from Morgan Frankenfield to make it 1-1 and send the
game into overtime.
Franks scored the game-winner in the second overtime period off
a direct kick to seal the win for PhilaU in dramatic fashion.
The Lady Rams outshot Caldwell 32-3 for the match.
Senior goalie Sara Hall (Newark, DE/ Wilmington
Charter) had three saves in the win, while CC's keeper Lauren
Hoenig had 14 stops.
