Volleyball Sweeps USciences for Second Time in 2017 on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) volleyball team (19-6, 14-1 CACC) turned in a Saturday afternoon sweep of the USciences Devils (6-13, 4-11 CACC) by a final of 25-16, 25-14, 25-16 from the Gallagher Center.

Junior Courtney Wensel notched a match-high 12 kills in the victory. Freshman Logan Dontell hit .429 with seven kills with just one error. Senior Corinne Justus owned a .333 hitting percentage with seven kills and two errors.

Freshman Abigail Kress had four service aces in the match to help the Rams grab the first set. Wensel had three aces on the day.

Freshman Caitlin Crespo led the squad with 11 digs.

Jefferson went up early in the first before USciences was able to tie up the set at 15-15. An eight-point run with Kress serving pushed the Rams to a 24-15 lead.

The Rams led the second set wire-to-wire going up by seven points early at 11-4. A five-point run late in the set gave the Rams a 22-10 advantage on their way to the win.

After finding themselves down 6-3 in the third, Jefferson tied it up with three-straight points before using a seven-point run to go up 13-8. From there, Jefferson never gave up the lead again, closing the set and the match with five-straight points.

Jefferson Volleyball returns to action at home on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. with a CACC match against Chestnut Hill from the Gallagher Center.
