NEWARK, Del. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) volleyball team (18-6, 13-1 CACC) took down the Wilmington Wildcats (10-17, 6-8 CACC) on Wednesday evening on the road in Delaware by a 25-15, 25-16, 25-22 final.
It comes as the seventh conference sweep on the year for the Rams and the 10th overall three-set win.
Junior Courtney Wensel notched her 14th double-double of 2017 in the victory behind a match-high 16 kills to go along with 13 digs. The junior product hit .389 on the evening.
Freshman Abigail Kress ranked second on the squad with eight kills while fellow classmate Logan Dontell hit .545 with six kills on 11 total attacks with no errors. Dontell also had one solo block and five block assists.
Freshman Caitlin Crespo recorded a match-high 22 digs. It marks her fourth time getting 20-plus this season.
Jefferson used a big stretch in the first set to go from up two at 16-14 to leading by nine at 23-14.
The Rams closed out the second set on a five-point run to win 25-16.
Wilmington tied up the third set with the Rams late at 18-18. Jefferson grabbed the next four points before the Wildcats got within one at 22-21 and 23-22. A kill by senior Corinne Justus, one of five on the evening, and an attack error by Wilmington secured the victory for the Rams.
The next two matches are at home for the Rams. Jefferson welcomes USciences on Saturday, Oct. 28 at noon before Chestnut Hill on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. to close out the month.
