NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Jefferson women's soccer standout Erin Tinneny on Thursday was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Student-Athlete of the Month for November 2019, as announced by CACC Commissioner Dan Mara. Tinneny, who had a remarkable month, earned the award for demonstrating success on the field, in the classroom and her surrounding community.
On the soccer field, Tinneny helped guide the Rams to the 2019 CACC Women's Soccer Regular Season and Tournament Championships, while also reaching the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament. She was named the most valuable player of the 2019 CACC Championship, as Jefferson pulled out a thrilling 2-1 win over Georgian Court University in the final. The Rams scored a late goal to lift the program to its third CACC Championship since 2014, but it would not have been possible without Tinneny making a save on a point-blank shot inside the final 10 minutes of regulation to preserve a 1-1 tie at the time.
Prior to her terrific run to the conference championship title, Tinneny was named the 2019 CACC Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year, and earning a spot on the all-conference first team at the position. The announcements of her all-conference and major awards came during the middle of the month. Her awards were not limited to the CACC, as she also earned a spot on the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-East Region Second Team as a keeper.
Tinneny has also excelled in the classroom during her time at Jefferson. She earned her bachelor's degree in accouting in May 2019, as she graduated cum laude. She currently sports a 3.83 cumulative grade point average in her MBA program of innovation. She is a three-time CACC Women's Soccer All-Academic Team honoree, while also being placed on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team. Tinneny was also named to her school's Dean's List on seven occasions.
Tinneny has also taken an active role in the community, as she serves as the President of Jefferson's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She helped SAAC organize a can food drive in November, as the items were donated to the Ramily Market, which gives Jefferson students in need non-perishable goods and hygiene products for free. Tinneny and the women's soccer team also raised over $2,000 this year for Vs. Cancer.
Tinneny becomes the first Jefferson Ram to earn the prestigious monthly award during the 2019-20 season. The award is handed out each month from May through Septemer, spanning the length of the academic calendar for the league's 14 member schools. The award recognizes student-athletes who excel athletically during the respective month, while also combining academic accolades and community engagement activities.
