Women's Soccer Releases 2019 Schedule, Includes Matchup With Defending National Champion Bridgeport

PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) women's soccer team announced its 2019 schedule on Wednesday. The slate includes 18 matches. The Rams will play 11 games at Ravenhill Field, including a date with defending national champion Bridgeport.

First-year head coach Socrates Nicolaidis will lead the squad against a set of opponents that includes four NCAA Tournament teams from 2018. Ten of Jefferson's foes qualified for a conference tournament with seven advancing to at least the semifinal round.

The women begin the year on the road at Saint Rose on September 8. The home opener is set for September 14 versus Queens (N.Y.). The Rams start CACC competition on the road at Post on September 21.

Bridgeport visits East Falls on October 30. The Purple Knights won the 2018 NCAA Division II Championship with a 1-0 victory over Grand Valley St. The regular season concludes at home against Salem (W.Va.) on November 8, ending a three-game home stand for the Rams.

"We are super excited for the upcoming season," said Nicolaidis. "We have a great freshman class joining our current group and we believe that they will bring the best out of each other and push themselves to reach their full potential. Having five games in September allows us to slowly build momentum and find our best lineup on the field before we really get into it in October. We are really looking forward to the challenge that Bridgeport brings as the defending national champion."

The top eight teams in the conference standings qualify for the CACC Tournament. Quarterfinal games are scheduled for November 12 at campus sites. The semifinals and final will be played at Post University on November 15 and 17.

Last season, Jefferson went 7-10-1 and finished fifth in the CACC with a 7-4-1 record. In the conference tournament, the squad suffered a 2-0 loss at Caldwell in the quarterfinals.

Dates, times and opponents are subject to change. Any updates will be posted on the women's soccer schedule page.
