Rowing Competes on Second Day of NCAA Division II Championships

INDIANAPOLIS - The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) rowing team raced its eight and four in the repechage of the NCAA Division II Championships on Saturday.

Varsity Eight
- Michaela Strangia (stroke), Maxi Schacht, Elizabeth Zolnierzak, Delaney Lynam, Colton Salomon-Lowden, Anna Tartaglia, Madison Okerson, Madison Carter (bow), Mara Holt (coxswain)

The eight took fourth in the rep with a time of 7:24.997. The boat will compete in the Petite Final on Sunday at 9:48 a.m. Florida Tech (7:08.177) and Seattle Pacific (7:10.318) advanced to the Grand Final while UC San Diego (7:10.886) will face the Rams in the Petite Final.

It was a tight race early with all four boats less than three seconds apart at the 500-meter mark. Jefferson struggled in the second 500 and fell 15 seconds behind the leader. The Rams were within seven seconds of a spot in the Grand Final with 500 meters to go but could not close the gap.

Varsity Four

The four came in fourth in the repechage with a time of 8:32.514. The Rams will row in the Petite Final on Sunday at 9:24 a.m. against UC San Diego, who was third (8:22.988). Western Washington (8:15.263) and Seattle Pacific (8:16.663) earned spots in the Grand Final.

Jefferson was fourth after the opening 500 but made strides by the 1000-meter mark, sitting in third and just two seconds out of second place. The Rams fell back over the third 500 and could not catch up down the stretch.
