BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) softball team (17-25, 12-14 CACC) locked up the final spot in the CACC Tournament, splitting a doubleheader at Concordia (N.Y.) (12-22, 8-16 CACC) on Monday. After dropping the opener, 6-5, the Rams came from behind in game two and got the victory they needed, defeating the Clippers, 6-2.
Concordia went off for six runs in the fourth to go in front. The Clippers got their runs from two doubles, a single, a hit by pitch and a walk.
The Rams put forth a rally in the seventh with Heno recording a sacrifice fly, senior Naomi Stas driving in a run with a single and Urban posting another RBI base hit. However, with the tying run on the base paths, Jefferson fell just short as a line out ended the game.
GAME TWO – W, 6-2
The Rams found themselves down early, with Concordia tallying two runs in the first on a triple and a single. However, Jefferson slowly worked its way back. Freshman Winnai Hoyt jolted the Rams with a lead-off triple in the fourth. She came home on Urban's groundout.
Heno began the sixth with a double and Hoyt followed with a double of her own to left center to tie the game. After Hoyt went to third on a groundout, Urban came up big again, posting her fourth RBI of the day as she plated Hoyt with an infield single for the lead.
The Rams added some insurance in the seventh, pushing across three runs. Heno knocked in two with a base hit and scored on an error. Stas retired the Clippers in order in the bottom half to punch Jefferson's ticket to the postseason.
Stas tossed a complete game and allowed just two hits. She walked two and struck out six batters.
