PHILADELPHIA – The No. 4-seeded Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's soccer team (9-7-2) used three-second half goals to get past the No. 5-seeded Concordia Clippers (6-8-2) on Tuesday afternoon from Ravenhill Field in the CACC Quarterfinals by a final score of 3-1. The Rams now move on to the conference semifinals on Friday.
Sophomore Val Mokrejs scored the first two goals of the day on headers in the second half. Jefferson earned two quick corners to start the final period. Junior transfer Charlie Livesey played both of them with the second reaching the back post to Mokrejs to put the Rams up 1-0 in the 47th minute.
In the 55th minute, the Rams grabbed a 2-0 advantage as senior Jason Rocha connected with Mokrejs at the far post for another header.
Jefferson managed 13 shots in the second half alone with 20 in the entire affair. Rocha led the Rams with six while Mokrejs and junior Rashaan Robe topped the squad with two on target each.
Robe gave the Rams a 3-0 in the 65th minute after he played a throw in at the goal line from senior Andrew Sauers, who earned an assist on the play.
Concordia scored a late goal in the 89th minute as Jefferson held on for the 3-1 victory.
Junior transfer Kris Donaldson (W, 6-5-1) stopped eight of nine shots in goal for the win.
Jefferson Men's Soccer will now play Wilmington (Del.) in the CACC Semifinals from Waterbury, Conn. on Friday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. from Post University's LaMoy Field.
