PHILADELPHIA – Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) men's basketball head coach Herb Magee is one of five local legends that will be honored at the 3rd Annual Coaches vs. Cancer School & Youth Initiative Basketball Legends Dinner on Thursday, April 11.
The dinner is at 6 p.m. at the Springfield Country Club. The organization is paying tribute to five Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famers from the Philadelphia area. Along with Magee, the honorees include Geno Auriemma (UConn), John Chaney (Temple), Cathy Rush (Immaculata) and Hank Nichols (NCAA Official).
Magee was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011. He just wrapped up his 52nd season at the helm of the Rams. Magee has compiled a career record of 1,096-440 for a .714 winning percentage. He is second all-time in NCAA history in victories behind only Duke's Mike Krzyzewski (1,129). Magee has led Jefferson to 30 NCAA Tournament appearances, 36 20-win seasons and 11 25-win campaigns. The Rams have had a winning record for 22 consecutive years, including a 22-8 mark in 2018-19.
