Women's Basketball Holds Onto CACC Win Against Bridgeport
PHILADELPHIA – Trailing by five points in the fourth quarter, Thomas Jefferson University women's basketball (6-2, 2-1) fought back to take the lead late and leave the Gallagher Center with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over the University of Bridgeport (3-3, 2-1) in Saturday afternoon action.
WHAT HAPPENED
- The Rams had control in the first quarter with a 15-5 advantage over the Purple Knights, going up 13-0 in the early parts of the contest. The second quarter proved to be different with Bridgeport making 7-of-19 shots on the floor with five of them being from beyond the arc as Jefferson trailed 28-25 at the break
- The third quarter proved to see both teams even it out with 18 points from both squads as it was 46-43 heading to the fourth
- Trailing 55-50 with 6:42 to go, Jefferson went on rally back as a Ana Pellecchia three pointer cut it down to only a two point game. After trading baskets, the Rams went to take the lead as Gabby Recinto scored five straight points for Jefferson
- Bridgeport went down the court and had an and-one play to retake the lead 61-60 with 35 seconds to go. After a timeout, Carolyn Sipprell hit a jumper to give the Rams the lead
- The potential inbound play did not go in favor of the Purple Knights as a miscommunication on the court with four players as well as a lob inbound pass that passed them by gave Tori Nigro a chance at the free throw line. Nigro hit one of her two free throw attempts. A last second desperation run down the court for Bridgeport resulted in a turnover and gave Jefferson the 63-61 win
- Emily Spratt led the Rams with 20 points on the day while Gabby Recinto was second on the team with 19
