Second Half Surge Advances Women's Soccer to Semi-Finals
PHILADELPHIA, PA - #1 seeded Thomas Jefferson University came out of the second half with a 1-0 lead and went to have a 3-1 scoring advantage in the second half as the Rams won 4-1 over Chestnut Hill College in the CACC Championship Quarterfinals at Ravenhill Field in Saturday afternoon action.
WHAT HAPPENED
Jefferson started off the game strong when
Kiery Spatz hit her shot from 25 yards out just by the goalie's hands to get the Rams up 1-0 in the 2
nd minute of the matchup. The rest of the period went on as the first game between both teams were in a defensive battle, keeping it scoreless through the rest of the first half. Jefferson only had five shots in the first half, but held the Griffins without one attempt in that span.
The second half would be a scoring barrage for the Rams, as
Nikki Dedes would take a penalty shot and convert for Jefferson, making the lead 2-0 at the 48
th minute. Dedes would then get another goal on the day at the 49
th minute, as
Avery Nogami passed to her down the right side of the field. Dedes would take her shot, which was initially stopped by the Griffins goalie but rolled behind her into the net. The Rams would be up 3-0 at that point.
Chestnut Hill would finally respond as a shot would be stopped right at the line by the Rams, however that would cause a free kick for the Griffins. They would take a shot from that attempt, going over Jefferson defenders into the net and cutting the lead to 3-1 at the 52
nd minute mark.
But the Rams would keep ahold of their lead, with
Liv Riddel having two saves in the second half. The Rams would close the game out at the 82
nd minute as
Anna Midock delived a pop up pass to
Sophia Henry, who would run down the field and make her shot to the left side of the net, giving Jefferson a 4-1 lead which they would hold onto the victory with at the end of the game.
