PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University is pleased to welcome
Kate Ryan as head women's lacrosse coach. Assistant Vice President for Athletics
Tom Shirley announced the hiring on Monday.
Ryan succeeds George Chis-Luca, who stepped down after 14 seasons. Most recently, she served as an assistant coach at the University of Findlay. Ryan also has coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level and was an All-Conference defender at Division I Monmouth.
"We are very excited about the hiring of
Kate Ryan," said Shirley. "Between her excellent playing career and her diversified coaching experience, we believe that Kate is the right candidate to lead our lacrosse program into 2023 and beyond."
"I would like to thank
Tom Shirley and the athletics department for giving me this opportunity," said Ryan. "I am looking forward to getting started and doing big things with the lacrosse program at Jefferson."
Ryan was on the coaching staff at Findlay for the 2022 season, where she had a hand in preparing practice plans and recruiting. The Oilers reached the Great Midwest Athletic Conference final. Prior, Ryan was an assistant coach for two years at Division I Delaware State.
Locally, Ryan has coached the game at the middle school level for NXT Lacrosse Club in Conshohocken. She has also served as a sports performance coach for middle and high school grades at Athletes Arbor in Collegeville.
Ryan played collegiately at Division I Monmouth, where she was a Second Team All-MAAC selection on defense in 2018. She was also chosen to the 2018 MAAC All-Tournament Team and was named her team's most valuable player.
A native of Morton, PA and a graduate of Springfield High School, Ryan earned a bachelor's degree in health and physical education from Monmouth and later received a master's in sport administration from Delaware State.
