Women's Soccer Upset By Chestnut Hill For First Conference Loss

PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University women's soccer team (10-4-1, 8-1-1 CACC) suffered its first conference loss of the season with a 3-2 setback at Chestnut Hill (8-4-3, 5-2-3 CACC) on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams placed two shots on goal to start the contest but both were stopped by the goalkeeper. The Griffins countered and took a 1-0 lead on their first shot of the contest in the 15th minute. The remainder of the first half saw Jefferson post a 6-1 advantage in shots but the Rams could not get on the board. Their best opportunity came when Avery Nogami's shot in the 40th minute hit the crossbar.

In the second half, Jefferson capitalized on a violation by Chestnut Hill when Nikki Dedes converted a penalty kick in the 49th minute to even the match at one. However, the Griffins answered with another goal just four minutes later to regain the advantage. The Rams pressed for the next 20 minutes, outshooting CHC 8-1, and the effort finally paid dividends in the 70th minute when Dedes potted her second of the game to tie the score at two.

After the tying goal, the Griffins responded in quick fashion once again, finding the back of the net in the 72nd minute to go ahead 3-2. Jefferson got off three shots over the remaining time but could not find the equalizer.
