Kenville Sends Women's Soccer To CACC Semifinals as Rams Survive Overtime Thriller Versus Post

PHILADELPHIA - Grace Kenville scored the winning goal with 2:52 remaining in the first overtime period to give the third-seeded Thomas Jefferson University women's soccer team (10-5-1) a 3-2 victory over sixth-seeded Post in the quarterfinals of the CACC Tournament on Tuesday.

The Rams advance to the semifinal round where they will battle second-seeded Holy Family in a rematch of last season's CACC title game. The two squads will square off on Friday, November 12 at 11 a.m. The remainder of the conference tourney will be played at Post University.

GAMEPLAY
Jefferson dominated the first 25 minutes of play, racking up eight shots and seven corner kicks. The Rams clanged two shots off of the crossbar and four were stopped by the goalkeeper. The Eagles then countered and took a surprising lead on their first shot of the afternoon in the 26th minute.

Trailing 1-0, Jefferson continued the attack and it paid off in the 35th minute. Ava Albergo took a corner kick from the right corner and the ball bounced off of a defender and just inside the left post to even the score at one. The Rams took their first lead of the day six minutes later when Kiery Spatz converted a penalty kick after a Post foul inside the box. The Eagles had two corner kicks in the closing minutes but the score stayed 2-1 into halftime.

There were only two shots recorded over the first 28 minutes of the second period, both by Jefferson. Post then found the equalizer in the 74th minute. The Eagles were awarded a free kick on the left side of the field. The ball was sent into the right side of the box then tapped back to the middle where a shot ended up in the back of the net. Both teams had chances afterwards but both goalies were up to the task and the contest went into overtime.

In the extra period, the Rams kept the ball mainly in the attacking end of the field. They registered one shot and a corner kick over the opening five minutes but still searched for the winning tally. With just under three minutes to go, the ball was sent forward and Laural Erick sped past a defender to put herself in a one-on-one with the keeper. The goalie came out and blocked Erick's shot attempt but the ball bounced right to Kenville who was following up the play. Kenville calmly put the ball into the open net to send her team to the semifinals.
