Palese finds back of the net in women's soccer's 3-1 loss to Caldwell

CALDWELL, N.J. – Junior midfielder Hannah Palese (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) netted her first collegiate goal in the Philadelphia University women's soccer team's 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss to host Caldwell Saturday afternoon.

Palese's goal came 23:46 into the match with a blast from 25 yards out to give Philadelphia (0-3-0, 0-3-0 CACC) a 1-0 lead.

Caldwell (3-1-1, 2-0-1) struck back 2:36 before halftime to tie the match at one when Rebecca Stinger knocked home a rebound on a shot taken by Remi Piccirillo.

Both keepers were busy in the first half as Philadelphia sophomore Courtney Shaw () and Caldwell's Robin Bianchi each made four saves.

The match remained deadlocked until the 55:44 when Sarina Soriano took advantage of a rebound to give the home team a 2-1 lead. Julie Crankshaw took the initial shot. The Cougars' Kelly Folk tacked on an insurance goal with 15:08 left with a shot from just inside the penalty area.

Shaw stopped seven shots over the final 45 minutes to finish the match with a career-high 11 saves. Bianchi ended the day with seven saves. Caldwell outshot Philadelphia 26-14, 14-6 in the second half.

Philadelphia will look for its first win of the 2013 season when it travels to LIU Post for a non-conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 4 p.m.
