Box Score Sophomore forward Malcolm Ingram (Philadelphia,
Pa./Solebury Prep; pictured) posted his ninth double-double of the
season, finishing with 22 points and 13 rebounds in helping
Philadelphia University to a 70-53
win over the University of the Sciences in men's basketball action
on Thursday night at the Gallagher Center. The victory,
the seventh in the past eight games for the Rams,
improves them to 13-11 overall and allows Head Coach Herb
Magee's team to remain perfect in the Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference (CACC) with a 10-0 mark. The Devils
fall to 10-12 overall and 4-7 in league play.
Senior forward Jason Hickenbottom (Philadelphia,
Pa./Simon Gratz) finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and six
assists for Philadelphia University, which also got 15 points from
Mike Dunn (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin),
leaving the junior guard just 36 points shy of 1,000 for his
career. The Devils were led by junior forward Shane
Connor (Canadensis, Pa./Pocono Mountain East), who scored
12 points off the bench.
The Rams quickly established control of the game, and took
their first double-digit lead of the night when
Hickenbottom nailed a three-pointer with 10:57 left in the
first half, putting Philadelphia ahead 18-8. The advantage
extended to 17 at halftime after an Ingram layup with :38
seconds remaining in the opening frame made the score 40-23.
The second half opened with the Rams going on a 10-3 run as
their lead swelled to 24 when Ingram converted in the paint
with 16:02 left in the game making the score 50-26. From
there, Philadelphia University continued to hold the Devils at bay
en route to the 17-point win.
The Rams' shot 47.5% (28-59) overall and 43.5% (10-23) from
beyond the three-point line--tops among their past five
performances. Philadelphia University is now 9-2 when scoring
70 or more points this season, with six such victories coming in
their last eight outings. Another telling statistic from
Thursday's game was the Rams' highly-impressive assist-to-turnover
ratio of 2.37 on 19 assists versus just eight turnovers
in the tidy win over USP.
Philadelphia University will be right back in
action this Saturday afternoon, February 9. Tip-off is
scheduled for 12:00 noon inside the Gallagher Center
against the visiting Tigers from Holy Family University.
The men's game has been chosen as NCAA
Productions' Division II National Television Game of the
Week. This is the first time in University history that the
Rams will appear on national television. It is the second
matchup of the season for the CACC South Division foes, as the Rams
defeated the Tigers 52-47 on Dec. 3,
2007.
CSTV will televise the
game--locally on Comcast Ch. 274, DirecTV Ch. 610 and Dish
Network Ch. 152--and it will be simulcast on their broadband network as
well. Justin Kutcher will handle the
play-by-play chores while Vince Curran, a former
All-City and All-Catholic basketball player from St. Joseph's Prep
who went on to play collegiately at Penn, will provide color
commentary.
